Fuwa means fluffy in Japanese. This Japanese souffle pancake and dessert Cafe is rightfully named (fluffy) as it serves amazingly delicious, and very fluffy pancakes. It’s great that Fuwa Fuwa has a good number of locations across the GTA, in Calgary, in Edmonton, in Manchester UK, and in China. To name a few of the GTA locations; Downtown Toronto, Fairview Mall, and Square one mall to entice everyone s tastebuds with their pancakes that the Fuwa Fuwa website appropriately describes as “soft, bouncy, and light.”
I have only gone to the Maple location located at 9342 Bathurst St since it is the closest location to my place of residence in Richmond Hill. This location is open on Mondays to Thursdays, from 10 am to 9pm, Fridays from 10 am to 10 pm, Saturdays from 9am to 10 pm, and Sundays from 9am to 9pm. The first time I went to eat at Fuwa Fuwa was with my friend M. When we arrived at Fuwa Fuwa when I looked at the menu, Maple Vaughan Pancakes | Fuwa Fuwa Pancakes full of those yummy looking and flavorful fluffy pancakes, their delectable menu threw me into a “kid in a candy store” mode. I was confused about whether to order their signature pancake, their souffle pancake, their tiramisu pancake, their black sesame blueberry chocolate macarons, or their burnt top cheesecake …list is endless!
After much pondering I opted for the Fruit Forest Pancake. When my order came after a 30-minute wait, and I dug into it the taste was nothing like I had previously tasted. The flavorful and flocculent-tasting pancake was worth the wait! The combo with my favourite fruits that included kiwi, pineapple, strawberry, banana, and orange along with the subtly sweet, whipped cream made it super zuper delightful for my taste buds. I ordered Oolong tea to accompany this amazingly delicious pancake. My friend M ordered a Strawberry Pancake. M doesn’t like her food overly sweet but was pleased with her order choice, and she described it as succulent and subtly sweet. She had coffee to accompany her delicious Strawberry Pancake.
I went to Fuwa Fuwa for the second time with my friend L, her son K, and my daughter N. L and I both ordered a Matcha Tiramisu Pancake. In addition to the signature fluffiness Fuwa Fuwa pancakes have, the matcha taste with its mixture of slight bitterness and savoriness, gave this pancake a heavenly delicious taste. My friend L also echoed how she loved this delectable taste. They also gave us extra freshly prepared matcha in case we needed to add more matcha. N and K both ordered Strawberry Pancakes. They both echoed the sentiments about how delicious their Strawberry Pancakes were.
The Strawberry Pancake is certainly a great hit with most people because when I went for the third time with my daughter N and our friends A and V, the three of them ordered the Strawberry Pancake. All three stated and emphasized how yummy their pancakes tasted. N also had a Strawberry Soda to accompany her pancake, when we went for the 3rd time. She described her strawberry drink as not too sweet, but perfectly sweet. I ordered the Matcha Tiramisu Pancake again because I wanted my tastebuds to enjoy this uniquely slightly bitter savoriness again. I was not disappointed like last time. The kids would agree as well, the 25-plus minute wait while they were preparing the pancakes from scratch was worth the wait.
